Stephanie Slama’s photographic style
is originally inspired by all the wild psychedelic art openings she attended
when young with her father, board member for the Society of Illustrators in
Los Angeles. Trips to Europe further cultivated her tastes and fantasies
until somehow it all got mixed together and out came an amusing vision which
can be described as “glamorous drama” or “a fairytale with an edge”.
The light construction in Stephanie’s work has been compared to that of the
studio Harcourt. She is fascinated by the great cinema director of
photography Henri Alekan and his use of light and shadow to enhance the
three dimensional quality of an image. By using natural light or HMI lamps,
and further enhancing the contrast and depth of her photos digitally by
applying painting techniques learned in art school, she creates an emotional
atmosphere that pulls the viewer into the picture. Her subjects are
portrayed as sexy, intense, and slightly dominating. When decor is used in
studios or locations scouted – whether it be rough baroque, gothic, retro
modern - it is always an extension of the person being photographed.
Stephanie has worked with top hair and makeup artists such as Thibault
Fabre, has done production for Vanity Fair / Vogue fashion and celebrities
photographer Mario Testino, and has photographed for such clients as Miramax,
L’Oréal, Numero, Spivak Entertainment, Paris Capitale, Le Figaro, Chloé,
Alfred Dunhill, Strictly Rhythm records, and many others. For more
